My two favorite Irish responses to "what's up?" have been "very well, thank you" and "not a very large amount." The joke was on me, though, when someone asked "what's the craic?" and I broke out a little bag of cocaine.
I kid. Craic means fun times and general merriment. The last night the Johnsmeyers were in town, we took the train out to Howth for some good craic. Howth is what my dad called "a drinking village with a fishing problem."
